Thank you for downloading The Unit Power Database Version 1.0, I hope you find it useful. This file is in three parts:
1) Using an MS Works database
2) The freeware Excel Viewer
3) Pasting into other formats
4) Ending Words

SECTION 1
At this time, I am not aware of any freeware viewer for MS Works database files, so if you do not have MS Works, skip down to section 2.

	A) Finding what you need
Most of the time, this file is best viewed by sorting records by number. This will place the weakest units, in general, on top. Units appear by type in this order: Infantry, Cavalry, Archers, Siege Engines, Ships, Civilians, Buildings, Heros, Cheats, Animals, and the mysterious invisible demon in a class by itself. Normally when you use this file, you will have something in mind that you are looking for. There are two ways to do this. Firstly, you can sort the records. If, for example, you wanted to find all units with over 120 HP, you would go to "Record" at the top of the screen, then follow the pull-down menu to "sort records..." You must then sort by "Hit Points" in descending order to place the highest-HP units at the top (you may want to sort by type second, followed by name to make things easier to find). This can be useful for finding files that are above/below a certain number, HP, attack, armor, or rate of fire. The second way to find something is through the search command. A good example for this would be if you wanted to find all academy units. To do this, go to the "Edit" menu, and click "find..." Type in Greek, then hit OK. This should take you directly to the first place where this name appears. To find all the files at the same time, you can select "all records" under "match" in the search dialogue box. This will cause the computer to only display records that contain the name. You can also sort records by type, then use the "Next Record" option to bring you to the units with all records still displayed around it. This is good for finding something specific, such as a particular word in a name, a certain civ, or a range.

	B) Editing the document
One of the nice things about databases is the ability to add, change, or delete information. In MS Works, such changes are fairly easy to make. If you wish to add a new field (if you wanted to mark your favorite units, for example), just right-click on a cell in a field that it will be next to. Click on "insert field" (before or after) to place a new one with a name that you specify. Records can also be added in a similar way (note: records always appear above the record that you clicked on). To change existing data, simply click on a cell to change and start typing (going to edit then "Fill [type]" or "replace" may also be helpful). To move data, drag the mouse over all the cells you want to move, then click the upper edge of the resulting box and drag to its new location. Cutting/copying and pasting also do this job well. A common problem when using the DB is that the letters will be too small to see, or you cannot fit enough information in the existing window. There are again two fixes for this. First, change the view percentage. Click the +/- buttons next to "zoom 100%" to get a larger/smaller view. Second, you can change the font size. To do this, click the rectangle in the upper left-hand corner of the document to select all cells at once. Then, change the number in the font size box (originally set to 10, smaller #=smaller font). You will probably have to resize the fields after doing this.

SECTION 2
If you do not yet have the free Excel Viewer, go to Microsoft's web page at http://www.microsoft.com, then under the word "previews" click More Downloads. You will find "Excel 97 Viewer" under Miscellaneous Viewers.
I do not have Excel, nor am I skilled in the use of the viewer. The help file provided should be more than adaquate for explaining it.

SECTION 3
If don't have the appropriate software, or simply wish to convert the file into another format, but cannot do it directly, this section will probably be very helpful.
The .txt document "Unit Power for copying" were designed with this in mind. First make a database in your favorite format with fields for unit number, name HP, attack, rate of fire, armor, shield, special, cost, advantage, and comment. Open the .txt document and copy everything under the heading "unit numbers," then paste it into the corresponding field in the database. Do this with each column until they are all added. It is important that you do not change the order of the files during this process. The records were made to come out in the correct order if nothing is changed. Note that a '?' is used in place of blank fields to make it easier to copy. You may wish to edit these out later.

SECTION 4
Firstly, Do NOT distribute this database in any form except as the original, unaltered zip file without my permission. I will not knowingly publish any incorrect data, so if I have made any mistakes, I will attempt to rectify them as soon as I am made aware of the error.

Well, I hope you found this helpful. I love to hear from people who have used my files, especially compliments and constructive criticism. Also, I would not have been able to do this without help from the Sha'itan website (closed) which provided me with most of the ROF data, or without Joseph Knight who made the conversion into Excel and HTML.
